After, what felt like,a long wait for fresh new music from the talented Sam Fender the announcement of the new single Hypersonic Missiles could not have come any quicker, and it doesn't disappoint. Since the release of the fantastic debut album "Dead Boys" Sam had taken a small break to allow time to focus on the new year which by the looks of it should be just as big and hectic as 2018. Following from the huge win of the Brit award for Critics' Choice, the singer has thrown himself straight into 2019 with the new single.
As soon as the song starts the house style of the repetitive guitar strumming that we all know and love kicks in. With the synthesizer in the background keeping a constant high tone in the background, the drums come in maintaining the catchy beat that can be found with many of his tracks. After all this, the subtle hushed, but very prominent, tones of Sam's voice works brilliantly with the interesting lyrics. As always the lyrics are well coupled with the tone of the song and tell the story of the political and social views that Sam has, and maybe the 'millennials' also share. Whilst the two opening verses indicate a clear attack at the current situation we find ourselves collectively, with lines like " I'm not the first to live with wool over my eyes ", " Kids in Gaza are bombed, and I'm just out of it" and "The tensions of the world are rising higher", a new view on the song writer is developed with the third verse hinting at a lover. However this verse is down to personal interpretation which is why the slightly odd metaphors can actually relate to the listener clearly and visually from their own experiences.
Unfortunately there has been no more hints of much more music coming too soon, but with the addictive voice, melodies and lyrics I can definitely say again. His music just can't come any quicker.
