In a time where it seems that the Alternative/Indie scene is dying down, it is hard to find new raw talent to bring through in the hope of springing back the classic music genre that captured British culture so much in the 90s. However, there seems to be a glimmer of hope with small acts popping up across the country creating music that isn't just original, but music that has evolved from the past so that it can be brought back to the spotlight of the charts.
One man that seems to be making a name for himself, as I'm sure you've heard of, is Tom Grennan. Not only has he picked up a large and loyal fan base, but the 23 year old from Bedford also won BBC Music Introducing Artist of the Year award 2018. However, none of this may not have happened if it wasn't for one of his friends asking him to sing. It wasn't until later on in Tom's teens that he realised his vocal capabilities. In order to carry on with his newly found passion, Tom practised and developed his guitar skills at University. Soon after, Tom teamed up with 'Chase and Status' to collaborate on the single 'All goes wrong' which brought his name into the music industry.
Now, with his latest album 'Lighting Matches' he has stormed through the UK rankings and has made a mark in the Alternative music genre. The album is flawless. With his gritty but perfectly tuned voice Tom brings a whole new style to the game. The voice is then accompanied perfectly by his fresh and new melodies that are so dynamic in their addictive-like simplicity that it is hard to shake his music out of your head. But why would you want to? Accompanied with a drum set that keeps the music flowing, Tom is for sure a talented musician that maybe for his friend, we'd never have had the pleasure of hearing.
